doodling lady

after snacking on a delicious sandwich i killed some time sketching some locals. this woman was very interesting. she was watching a TV show on her phone, laughing every once and a while and doodling circles over and over on 80 or so sheets of paper. her actions and art-making reminded me a lot of Art Brut

ROC-->MTL

Montreal, Canada
We spent my birthday weekend in montreal, canada, and i decided to follow the path of FREEKHAND and use a toned sketchbook, some gray markers and a white colored pencil. it was way fun to have a limited tool box so instead i could focus on what was in front of me. i really enjoyed the results and my favorite was this sketch of a wicked cool church out in front of our almost 300 year old hotel.

abstract paintin'

i heard there was a fundraiser for a booster club at school and i saw a lot of local folks making artwork to auction off at the event. i decided to toss my hat in the ring and make a bright, abstract piece for the auction. i am not sure if it sold for $2 or $2,000 regardless, it was fun to make!

rochester sketch outing

our local sketch group met for an outing in downtown rochester. there seems to be a new building being built or one being torn down every few weeks in the heart of the city. which is good, we need it. you can walk around downtown on a saturday afternoon and see 3 people going about their day. it's a sad state of affairs.

sketching at the market

this was a quick sketch while i was perusing the local foods at our market. this food truck was compact and cute, and a nice family operation. while i was sketching the youngest son kept hovering and he was dying to see what i was doing. he thought i was writing them a ticket! ha.

puhhhnnnnkkkiiinnnnnns

my student teacher did a lesson on blind contour line drawings and used gourds as her subjects. so i happened to have my sketchbook handy and blasted out a few drawings. i had just read a post from mr. marc holmes in regards to dip pens. that same day i had a parent donate a ton of random (and i mean random) supplies, some of those being nibs for dip pens! so i just "had" to test them out--right?

toronto, CA

Senior Trip
i got invited to chaperone the senior trip to toronto, canada! of course i had to bring along my sketchbook! we had a lot to see and do in a little amount of time so my sketching was VERY limited and rushed. but the kids got a kick out of it and they got to see a different side of me they are not used to seeing.
