Toned Gray round up (sketchbook #14-complete)

Here are the last few pages from my toned gray sketchbook inspired by Mr. Miguel Herranz. 144 pages is a lot of toned sheets to sketch on and I quickly got burnt out on all the gray. So I would take this book with me to "lesser" sketching locations for quick people drawings, and some buildings. Sometimes making this book the "B" book made me looser and expectations lower. So in the end, some of my best sketches came out of these pages.

One man Canandaigua Sketch Crawl

Not much else to do on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon so I explored the city I live in with a one man sketch crawl! 

Brrrrrrr sketching

As a meetup group we headed out to the Public Market for some good old fashioned chilly sketching. This, by far, was the coldest day we've had this fall, and we picked an outside venue! 

We wandered around from place to place sketching chickens, coffee shops, and people milling about. At one point Genine got chatting with the owner of Juan and Maria's Empanada Stop food stall. She was sketching his stall and got chatting about creativity. He uses food and sauces for his outlet, we use pen and watercolors! At one point he handed us free empanadas so we could try his sauce! We munched away and I sketched the sauces to remember the moment! It was really cool! Only when sketching will you meet people that way!!

Boulder Coffee Meetup

Last week we met you at Boulder Coffee to sketch a musician. Turns out the musician cancelled and a DJ spinning some tunes took his place. Regardless we had a great turn out and had a god time sketching with some other art-geeks!

New Toy

Recently I obtained a "Pilot Hi-Tec Coleto" which can hold 5 different ink refills. Thanks to Jetpens.com I got a few other goodies because I just had to have free shipping.

Garbage pile

With the Finger Lakes Plein Air competition in town, I volunteered to help out with art intake, serving at the gala and setup. After one night of helping out I noticed this awesome pile of junk behind the carriage house at Sonnenburg Gardens. We got done earlier than planned so I scampered back there and got sketching! I was intrigued by the white chair so I thought the gray paper would be a good choice. I camped out and captured this neat behind the scene view.

A few nights later I was back at the same location and a rainstorm slowed down the intake of artwork--so I had some time to kill! I attempted to sketch the pile again, but rain drops and an awkward pose stopped me early. I finished up the other layers of paint at home.

Pouring rain and a night alone means a trip to the Greenfront for some eats! And sketching!
